Problem confrontation by the rural women in homestead agricultural production in bangladesh
Abstract
The study was conducted to measure the problem confrontation by the rural women in homestead agricultural activities and to identify the factors related to their problem confrontation. Two villages representing modern and traditional from the Mymensingh district were selected for this study. Two hundred women 100 from each village were randomly selected as the sample of the study. Data were collected through personal interview schedule during the period of May to June 1993. Three variables such as socio-economic status, unutilized homestead area and education were included in the step-wise regression equation of modem village which explained 26.71 percent of the variation. On the other hand, socio-economic status, homestead area used in agriculture and individual contact were included in the step-wise regression equation of traditional village which explained 24.92 percent of the variation. Socio-economic status was found to contribute highest (16.54% in modem village and 16.33% in traditional village) to the extent of variation of the problem confrontation for both the villages. Though there was no significant difference between the problem of the two villages but the magnitude of the problem differed. In modem village lack of spaces in homestead area, lack of money for buying seeds, seedlings and other inputs, lack of good seeds and seedlings were respectively placed in first, second and third rank order. Whereas, in traditional village lack of water supply, lack of good seeds and seedling, insect pest and disease infestation were respectively placed in first, second and third rank order.
