An experiment was carried out to find out the suitable planting materials and optimum plant spacing for two recommended varieties of turmeric for maximum profit at the Regional Agricultural Research Station, Rahmatpur, Barisal during 1994-95. There were three sets of treatments, such as (a) Three categories of planting materials : Corm, Primary and Secondary cormels, (b) Three plant spacings such as 20, 25 and 30 cm with a constant row spacing of 60 cm and (c) Two varieties viz. Sinduri and Dimla. The yield was significantly influenced by planting materials and varieties. The highest yield(30.49 t/ha) was produced by corm as a planting material of variety Dimla closely followed by primary cormel of same variety (28.33 t/ha). The benefit cost ratio was the highest (3.02) when primary cormel of Dimla was used as planting materials.
