Effect of linuron and simazin on growth and n2-fixation by vicia faba l. in a sandy soil
Abstract
In pot trials, conducted in the Institute of Biophysics, Hannover, Germany, under controlled climatic conditions, field beans (Vicia faba cv. Klein Thueringer) were treated preemergence with three dosages of either linuron or simazin. Effects of low and normal rates of application of these herbicides on dry matter production were not clear. However, at application rates of- calculated to be double those in the field, dry matter was decreased by 1.22 and 0.73g, compared to control due to linuron and simazin, respectively. Highest concentration of linuron retarded the nodulation and nodule dry matter by max. 56% compared to control during the end of the observation period, whereas simazin had less effect. Nodule activity as well as plant nitrogen content were adversely affected at the highest concentration of both herbicides.
