Abstract:
Effects of Sesbania aculeata and Sesbania rostrata intercropped with irrigated boro rice sown at varied planting times showed that the relative rice plant height was higher at later planting. Productive tillers and 1000-grain weights were affected by intercropping. About 2.67 - 41.26% reduction in grain yield were recorded. But additional biomass (2-7 t/ha) from green manuring crops were obtained which was incorporated in the soil for succeeding aus cultivation. Reduction in grain yield of aus rice was as high as 17% depending on the quantity of biomass added at 50% reduced N rate. Green manuring crops can be established with irrigated boro rice.
