Co-efficient analysis of y^dcontributing characters in upland cotton (gossypiumiiirsutum linn.;
Abstract
Abstract:
Studies on correlation and path-coefficient analysis were conducted with twenty genetically diverse lines of upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum Linn.). Genotypic correlation coefficients were higher than the corresponding pheno¬typic correlation coefficients in all cases. Seed cotton yield per plant exhibited positive and significant genotypic and phenotypic correlations with number of bolls per plant and boll weight. Path coefficient analysis revealed that the number of bolls per plant had the maximum positive direct effect on seed cotton yield per plant followed by boll weight. Selection for these two characters seemed to be most effective in the present materials.
