Genetic variability and correlation study in proso millet (panicum miliaceum l.)

Abstract

Abstract: The genetic variability and correlation coefficients were studied in 20 diverse strains of proso millet (Panicum miliaceum h.) for eight important agronomic characters. Grain yield, 1000-grain weight and number of primary tillers/plant had a high degree of genetic variability. These traits were found to be highly amenable to selection, as indicated by high hcritability along with high genetic advance. The grain yield/plant was correlated positively with grain weight and number of primary tillers, and negatively with days to flower and ear length.
