Abstract :
An experiment with 18 genotypes of ginger was conducted in the
experimental field of Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, Bangabandhu
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, Gazipur during the period
from April 2005 to March 2006 for screening the genotypes against the Stilt-
legged rhizome fly, Mimegralla coeruleifrons (Diptera: Micropezidae). The
results of the experiment indicated that the ginger shoot infestation and the
ginger rhizome infestation due to rhizome fly were significantly lowest in
genotype Ginger-12 with little higher infestation found in Gniger-2, Ginger-10.
Ginger-15, Ginger-11, Ginger-17 and Ginger-19. The intensity of rhizome
infestation interms of the length and breadth of tunnel made by rhizome fly was
significantly lowest in Ginger-12 with little higher length and breadth of tunnel
found in Ginger-18 and Ginger-15. The weight of healthy rhizome was the
highest in the genotype Ginger-3 followed by Ginger-11, Ginger-6, Ginger-8,
Ginger-10 and Ginger-12 with highest yield in Ginger-12 followed by Ginger-
11, Ginger-10 and Ginger-6. Considering the above, the genotypes Ginger-12,
Gniger-2, Ginger-10, Ginger-11, Ginger-17. Ginger-19, Ginger-16, Ginger-15
and Ginger-18 were found to be relatively resistant against the Stilt-legged
rhizome fly.
