Abstract :
The comparative effectiveness of mechanical destruction comprising hand-picking of pod borers infested plant parts every day, alternate day, at 3, 5 and 7 days interval was evaluated in a year round variety of country bean BARI Seem 3. All the treatments had significant effect on the pod borer and consequently the yield of country bean as compared to untreated control. Every day hand-picking and destruction of infested plant parts provided the best result in reducing pod borer infestation in flower and pod over control. Every day hand-picking also increased yield over control. But based on marketable pod yield and benefit cost ratio (BCR), hand-picking and destruction of infested plant parts at 5 days’ interval may be considered as the most effective option.
