Effect of green manuring on yield and yield contributing characters of br24 rice
Abstract
Abstract :
experiment was conducted at the research field of the Bangabandhu Sheikh .it>ur Rahman Agricultural University, Gazipur, Bangladesh from July 2008 . June 2009 to investigate the effect of green manuring with dhaincha (Sesbania rostrata) and sunhemp (Crotalaria juncea) on yield and yield contributing characters of BR24 transplanted aus rice. Green manuring with S. rostrata and C. juncea along with inorganic N @ 0, 20, 40, 60 and 80kg ha'1 was practiced in this experiment. The minimum growth duration (104.3 days), maximum tiller hill'1 (9.2), highest no. of panicles nr2 (330.7), highest no. of filled grain panicle' 1 (97.17) and highest grain yield (3.62 t ha-1) were obtained when green biomass of C. juncea was supplemented with inorganic N @ 80kg ha'1 which was statistically similar with S. rostrata with inorganic N @ 80kg ha'1. The increases in yield were 187.3% and 22.7% compared to the control plot and the plot where N @ 80kg ha-1 alone was applied, respectively. However, the highest N-use efficiency was recorded in treatments where N @ 20kg ha'1 was supplemented with Crotalaria juncea and Sesbania rostrata.
