Abstract :
A study was carried out in the Insecticide Toxicology Laboratory of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU), Gazipur during January to March 2007 to evaluate the effect of six selected plant extracts. Extracts were NSK (Neem Seed Kernel) water extract, NSK ethanolic extract, neem oil, neem leaf extract, nisinda leaf extract and tomato leaf plus marigold leaf extract at different concentration and evaluated on pod borers (Maruca vitrata) larvae of year round country bean to find out rate of mortality and deposition of concentration. Neem oil @ 10ml/l of water and NSK water extract @ 50g/l of water showed the best performance in respect of cumulative mortality of pod borer larvae. Tomato leaf plus marigold leaf extract also markedly reduced the survival of the larvae as compared to control. The order of toxicity of six selected crude botanical extracts on larvae of pod borer was neem oil > NSK water extract
> NSK ethanolic extract > tomato leaf + marigold leaf extract > neem leaf extract
> nisinda leaf extract. There were no significant differences among the treatments for the deposition of various concentration of botanical formulations on larvae.
