Abstract :
The present study made an effort to analyze the situations related to social capital of the beneficiaries of Comprehensive Village Development Programme (CVDP) at Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development (BARD), Comilla. Three CVDP villages were selected randomly from 20, which were operating in Comilla including one non-CVDP village. The sample size was 242 with 5% margin of error at 95% confidence level. The aggregate data analysis indicated that the social capital indices for the respondents of the CVDP and the non-CVDP villages were 59.60 and 40.46 percent, respectively. There was 19.14 percent value injection by the CVDP to the social capital index of the respondents of the CVDP villages. The villagers still need assistance of the CVDP for smooth running of the village level society, the CVDCS. Efficient delivery of service and contact mechanism of the CVDP might have contributed for the resource mobilization and sustainability of different development activities. It is therefore recommended that replication of the CVDP throughout Bangladesh should be made immediately as much as possible so that required credit, advisory and support services are available to the villagers for making their livelihoods more sustainable.
