Correlation and path coefficient analysis of yield and yield contributing characters in Upland cotton (gossypium hirsutum linn.)
Abstract
Studies on correlation and path-coefficient analysis were conducted with twenty genetically divcrsc lines of upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum Linn.). Genotypic correlation coefficients wcrc higher than thc corresponding phenotypic correlation cocfficicnts in all cases. Sccd cotton yield pcr plant exhibited positive and significant genotypic and phenotypic correlations with number of bolls pcr plant and boll weight. Path cocfficicnt analysis rcvcalcd that the number of bolls pcr plant had thc maximum positive direct cffcct on sccd cotton yield pcr plant followed by boll weight: Sclcction for thcsc two characters scemcd to bc most cffcctivc in the prcscnt matcrials.
