dc.description.abstractAbstract : The present study was undertaken to find out the regional differences of major cereal production in Bangladesh over the period of 1972-73 to 2003-04. The data were collected from different issues of statistical yearbook published by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics. Area and production under local Aus and Boro decreased rapidly at Rajshahi region in compared with the other regions of Bangladesh. Area under local Aman decreases at a higher rate in Khulna region and production at Rajshahi region. After liberalization Sythet, Barisal and Khulna regions are surplus region in major cereal production and Chittagong. Dhaka and Rajshshi were deficit region. Though Sylhel, Barisal and Khulna regions are surplus region but overall production of cereals are in deficit situalion.There is an opportunity to create efficient marketing system of cereals, so that cereals from surplus region may easily enter into the deficit region. The price of rice will be stable in the deficit region with this efficient marketing system.en_US
