Abstract : A vleid experiment was conducted under optimum and late sowing condition during 2004-2005 to estimate the heritability and genetic advance of wheat. Genotype x sowing time interaction effect was significant for plant height, 100 grain weight and yield/m2. Phenotypic and genotypic variances were high for effective tillers/m2, grains/ spike, yield/m2 and weight of biomass/m2 in both growing conditions. Heritability was high for plant height in both sowing conditions and for grains/ spike in optimum sowing condition. Moderate to low heritabilities were recorded for effective tillers/m2, 100 grain weight, yield/m2 and weight of biomass/m2 in both the growing conditions. Genetic advance were high for effective tillers/m2 in the two growing conditions and for 100 grain weight in late sowing condition. Moderate to low genetic advance were observed for 100 grain weight, yield/m2 and weight of biomass in optimum sowing condition. In the late sowing condition, moderate to low genetic advance were observed for plant height, grains/ spike, yield/m2 and weight of biomass/m2. Therefore, selection for bold grain with high yield potential for future use in late planting condition would not be possible from these genotypes except the variety Shatabdi.en_US
